ISO 14644-1 classifies a cleanroom by the maximum permitted concentration of airborne particles at specified sizes, not by air-change rate directly. ACH is a means to that end, sized from the room’s particle generation and recovery requirement.
A Class 7 room and a Class 8 room can share a floor plan and differ only in filtration coverage, air change rate, and pressure cascade. Getting the class right at the design stage is the difference between a room that qualifies on the first attempt and one that needs a filtration retrofit after PQ fails.
